Last week, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Almond’s kindergarten class deep dived into the book, Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom. 🌴 Students had to work together to make a coconut tree and count how many letters it will hold before falling. Lots of skills were practiced today (patience, communication, teamwork, inquiry, etc). CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM! 🌴 ABC

Monday in Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Almond’s kindergarten class, students listened to the story Yoko by Rosemary Wells. Students then had to follow directions to make their own friendship sushi. (It was also a great opportunity to practice being patient.) They did a great job!

To kick off our year, fourth-grade students took to the skies after reading The Great Paper Caper! Each student from Mrs. Cassidy's, Mrs. Hinch's, Mrs. Gillepie's, and Dr. Jackson's homerooms designed a paper airplane, added unique descriptions about themselves, and launched the planes into the air. The challenge was to find the creator of the airplane based on the clues! Not only did our students showcase their creativity, but they also made wonderful connections with fellow fourth-grade Terriers!

Our Terriers had a special surprise this morning in car line! Members of the Byrnes High School football players and cheerleaders greeted students are they arrived at school. Katie Thompson, a senior varsity cheerleader at James F. Byrnes and a student in Mrs. Heather Poore's Leadership Byrnes class started a Passion Project last spring to find ways to welcome Tyger River Elementary into the D5 family. Two of her goals included donating bookbags with supplies for students in need and recruiting fellow cheerleaders and football players to help with morning car duty. What a great way to wrap up the first week of school at TRE!
